Alphabet Soup Redux by aaron rhodes

June 27th, 2007 12:38 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Inspired by Alphabet Soup.

Write a story in which the first word in every sentence starts with the next letter of the alphabet. You may start with any letter, you must use all of them.

Example: "Giggles died down in the small group around the campfire as our group leader began another story. Her choice this time was horror. I was not afraid..."

Acting like a crazy man, I stay in a quiet little room. Beginning to wonder how my day started, I asked my self," Why am I waiting here." Could it be that I need something, want something, or am I just to polite to leave? Dumbfounded by my confusion, I twiddle my thumbs and observe the clock on the wall. Eleven-thirty. Far from when I arrived. Great Scott, will the doctor ever let me in! Hammering my fist against the padded waiting room chair, I grimace and grind my teeth, while I stare. Is it too much to ask to see a doctor when I am sick? Jumping to my feet, I walk in a huff to the receptionist. Kicking my heels together, like a spurned debutant, I ask,"I have been waiting for an hour, my chest hurts, and I feel so poorly." Lamenting my harshwords, I slow my tone, begging ever so softly," Let me in, Let me in." Mayhaps my heart will fail while I stand right here. 'No!', she says, right to my face. Offended, hurt, I return to my comfortable waiting room chair. Perhaps minutes past, but hours it seemed. Quivering silenting, listening closely to my strange heartbeat, I sat and stared pretending to feel normal. Racing through my mind, were the most terrible thoughts. Seizures and strokes, heartattacks, murmurs, and other terrible things. Things that should happen to me. Under my calm composure I am weak as a pup, a kitten, a needy little thing that doesn't feel well. Vaulting from my chair, wanting to feel young and strong again, I make my way back towards the receptionist. "Well, the doctor will see you now." she says quite contrite.
"X-Rays for your chest are down the hall and to the left."
"Ya know I feel much better now." knowing I haven't any insurance.
Zealous confusion overtaking my sense, I left immediately and haven't gone back since.
