You are your own ecosystem by aaron rhodes
July 11th, 2007 3:45 AMI have included several pictures along with a running dialogue, refering to each plant and any subplot that may go with it. In summation I have a lot of plants, and I do love plants. No offense, but animals only exsist to reap the wealth of what plants are!
Christmas tree

I have had this potted tree since christmas '06. It was our christmas tree then. I hope it will be our tree again. I hate to see people kill young trees. Buy plastic or potted! Trees will live longer than you!
Orchid1

This is an Orchid that is quite common, my orchid loving friend tells me. I bought it for my girlfriend at the powell street station in san francisco for $20 in 2005 and it has been in bloom twice!
Orchid1 in bloom

This is what the orchid looked like, in bloom, when I bought it for the young lady. I love the texture and bright colors. She has texture and bright colors too.
Bamboo

This is one of those nice bamboo plants that are real easy to take care of. There is no soil involved. You simply put water into the bottom of the pot. There are some rocks there, at the bottom, that hold moisture and the plant's roots.
African violet

The african violet is a wonderful house plant. It is easy to take care of with a wide range of temperatures, heat, and variation of water that it may withstand, and yet it will produce a beautiful array of dark purple flowers a couple of times a year!
orchid 2

This is a cattleya species of orchid. It is called cattleya walkeriana v. semi-alba. I got it from my orchid loving friend. The picture is bad, but I do not care. It is a little beast, doing really well and growing like a storm in the summer. It comes from Waimanalo, Hawaii.
orchid 3

This is an orchid given to my girlfriend by an office mate. It has done fantastically well in it's paper coffee mug. The damned thing won't die! Not that I have tried, but I have forgotten about it a time or two. My orchid loving friend says that a lot of people throw orchids away after having received them as gifts, because they lose their flowers. That doesn't mean that they are dead! Don't throw out a living orchid! Put it in a coffee cup, give it to a friend.
Me and myself

I know it may be thought as cheesy to include myself, but I don't think so. I could number a few more plants, but I want to make a point. I control this particular environment, and if I fail we all die, including myself. This may be an ecosystem, but it is by far unsustainable.
