Ethereal Cartography by Marina Evans

January 17th, 2009 1:49 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a map of something that does not exist physically.

I spend a lot of my time in places which do not exist. It is, without doubt, the curse of the role-player. I can be sitting in certain company and describe somebody as being exactly like the former Mayor of Morwyn, and they will know what I mean. To use this analogy with the other 5,999,999,996 people on the planet would register no reaction other than confusion.

In the light of this, I present for my enjoyment and your confusion, a map of the city of Coinworthy circa the year 998 CE.

Map of Coinworthy

Situated just south of Morwyn on the Knightsmarch road, the city of Coinworthy, overshadowed by the castle of its' Viscount was the main settlement of the area until the arrival of Imir Pascent and Ivar Hasgald, who have settled and encouraged population further north around Fisher's Haven and the surrounding area. From the map you can make out: both High and Low churches, the Greenwood Inn (which contains 3 secret passageways to Allain, Lyra's hut and The Glasshouse), the buildings belonging to the various guilds of Coinworthy, the market square, two town wells, the merchant district, the Mayor's residence and offices, a large area destroyed by the fire following the Coinworthy Joust in 996 c.e. and the subsequent area outside the town walls of the disposessed poor. Despite efforts to relieve their suffering, this distinct division has continued due to the hyper-religious nature of the age, and the money grabbing tendancies of the prevailent High Church.
