The Aesthetics of Minutiae by N Bluth
July 6th, 2006 8:14 PMAll those paintings of women, in art galleries, surprised at private moments. Nymph Sleeping. Susanna and the Elders. Woman Bathing, one foot in a tin tub -- Renoir, or was it Degas? Both, both women plump. Diana and her maidens, a moment before they catch the hunter's prying eyes. Never any paintings called Man Washing Socks in Sink.
--Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin
Create a visual depiction of a private moment that no one is likely to care about.
The first photo is of me getting ready to sleep. Sleep is pretty boring and I can't see anyone caring about when or where I sleep unless maybe they are trying to get a hold of me. Sleep also seems pretty darn personal, I mean someone can sleep next to you but no one can really share sleep with you the way you can share watching a movie or dinner.
The second picture is rather like sleep in the way that no one can share it with you. My rational for no one caring about these fish dying is that every time I am at Wal-Mart more fish are sunk at the bottom of the filthy tanks. You'd think someone would clean the tanks or take better care of the fish or protest or something, but I guess no one cares.

Thanks for your reflections (and your photos that represent your reflections) about sleep! Every time I try to explain that you can't really sleep with someone, I get blank stares and hear crickets chirping in the distance.
the dead fish in the bottoms of the tanks at walmart NEVER FAIL to depress the hell out of me.
