Hobo Nickel by Non Players

August 12th, 2008 3:04 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Infiltrate the currency.

For example, make a Hobo Nickel and release it into the general money supply.

One of us did a proper Hobo Nickel. Except we did not use a nickel. We used a one euro coin, because living in Spain we found them more readily available.

Using standard hobo nickel techniques we converted the face of King Juan Carlos into that of Homer Simpson.

Comparison

Then we spent it, infiltrating the money supply. It seems to have traveled a bit, winding up in a sweet shop - at which point the media were contacted and we made the news.

I don't think taking a photo from the internet and using it to claim a proof is a good idea, even if your sockpuppet is named 'non players'.

The sock-puppet 'non-player's is a place where whoever the hell all has access to it can post instances of non-sf0-players completing tasks in the real world without knowing it.

In this case, the articles should be attributed in the praxis (as it is) but if someone sees and photographs something in their day to day life that is an accidental completion of a praxis by a non-player, I see no reason why it should not be posted here.

I think the main reason I don't think it should be posted here is partly for the same reason that people don't like retroactive completions--that the act wasn't done for SF0, as an act of Drive. SF0 isn't simply a news aggregator site (of which there are plenty and plenty of good ones)--if we were to post all the instances of non-players completing tasks, I think that's largely what it would be. But this is a place which encourages the players to take an active role in creating their own fun. It's a place where we can post our own creative accomplishments for the rest of the community to enjoy. And while I'm happy that this isn't the only place encouraging people to make the world a stranger place, and that there are all manner of strange and bizarre things that people do outside the site, I do think that's different from tasking.

Anyway, that's the way I see it. And that's why it feels odd to claim a praxis for this.

[12/08/2008 23:28:00 (UK time, subtract 5 for eastern, 8 for western)] Ben Forbes suspects that praxis is going to cause controversy. He doesn't know why yet, but he suspects.

I'd like to thank Spidere for expressing why this praxis didn't feel right with me when I couldn't.

Ben. HEY BEN! I think you just completed this task.

well. sort of. is an sfzero controversy a highly unlikely event? yea, probably not. oh well. but good job predicting the future anyway.

Pshh, every praxis is controversial in its own little way.

Well, seeing as we don't play... +1

We shall keep future news of Shpl-on-players'd tasks to the comments.
