My boyfriend grew up in this city through the 70's. He has constant stories about buildings, prominent familys and history every time we go out or even when sitting on the couch. He has a lot of stories about serial killers, corrupt cops and murders. One that I found interesting was of the Zebra Killings that took place from72-74. He was going to grammer school at the time in the Ingleside neighborhood where most of the killings took place. There was a lot of speculation about who was doing this. Black Panthers, who were big in Oakland at the time were suspect, but nothing was ever proved. He wasnt sure if anyone was ever aressted for the crimes. Nearing the end the Zodiac killers took over the lime light and the Zebra killings faded from headlining news. This was all the info that he could come up with so I did a little research to get more info.
the attacks were froma group called the Death Angels. They believed that white people were created by a mad scientist who wanted an inferior race to rule over. They also believe they 'score points' into heaven if they died killing whites. The first people aducted were an elderly couple, the woman was decapitated, but the man suprisingly survived after his face was severly cut with a machete. Art Agnos, later a mayor of San Franscico was shot, but survived. Eventually one of the Death Angels came forward with info on eight of the other members, but its believed that the 9 that were arrested dont account for all the murders and many are still free to this day.
