Go to Church by nicolette oliphant

This was an accidental task. When I first read this, I really wanted to do it, but I havent been in a church since I was little. My mom worked wth an extremly religious woman who would take us to church with her kids. From where I live if you stand on my roof and take a 360 view there is a church within a half a block in any direction. So, one day on our way home my boyfriend too me into one of the chuches. He grew up in catholic schools and lived in Rome for a while. He told me about what all the statues and stained glass murals meant.
A few weeks later I was chillin by myself. I had a lot on my mind and thought I'd like to go sit in the church. It was nice and quiet when he took me in there and I wanted something peaceful. So I go over to the church. I walk up to the door and realize its saturday mass. I had to step back and walk out to the street. I called PaulK, I was so paranoid about walking into the middle of a service. He convinced me it was ok (after about 15 minute). So I go in. I sat one of the back rows. There were these paperback books of the sermons and events for the season. I picked them up and found where they were at. I tried to participate as best I could. I sang the hymns and tried to repeat the prayer. It seemed like everyone was mumbling or whispering, so it was hard to catch. ButI think I did well. I was really worried about going up for communion. When the priest was getting ready for it I swear he looked like a bartender. A big white bar in front of him a towel in his hand wiping out wine glasses. Trippy. So finally I worked up enough nerve to go for communion (I wanted to try the wine). I get in line and when I get up the the guy he goes to stick the cracker in my mouth just as I stick out my hand. 'Body of Christ'. Oops. But they didnt give any wine. I was kinda dissappointed. So the service ended, I donated some money, got a weekly flyer (they are haveing a 'blockparty', auctioning off raffle tickets. You can win like $2000 or 1/2 year tuition at Star of the Sea school). Crossed myself with some holy water. Very interesting experience. i think I might go back for confession. Apparently I commited sin by doing communion, I was never baptized...
Seeing people in the church was very interesting. It was probly one of the few times I felt a community feel in San Francisco. This was a place where people got together, other than a bar, and participted in something that was bigger than them. People were so into it. I was amazed. People were smiling, and I dont know why I thought that was wierd.
