Scale Model by Adam Grayson

December 12th, 2007 5:48 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Reproduce a famous work of art on a scale at least two orders of magnitude different from the original.

I had to jump on this one right away. I decided early to make something big, smaller. Making something large quite a bit larger was a terrifying prospect. A Mountain Dew can, for example, is five and a half inches taller. Increasing that by two orders of magnitude is forty-five feet tall... not possible.

I opted to shrink that most recognizable of objects, the Washington Monument in Washington, DC.

*I opted for Dollar Bills for social commentary. Not sure what that means, but you might.

- smaller

The Washington Monument

The Washington Monument in Washington, DC. See how majestically it thrusts itself out of the belly of our capital.

Monument Blueprints

Technical blueprint of the Washington monument in Washington, DC. This image, taken from Wikipedia.org, provided me with all the measurements and dimensions I needed.

Washington

Washington

The United States One Dollar Bill. It is 6.14 inches long. I use this item to do all of my measurements. I decided against using a ruler, and opted to try my hand at really complicated fractions. Using the dollar helped keep me in the correct ratio for the build.

The finished piece. It is to scale. The original is 6660 inches tall and mine sits at a lowly 6.6 inches.

It probably means that the secret and mystical symbols (large and small) that cover our currency and allude to the secret societies and rituals of the masonsare well-founded in D.C. ....the same groups that own and run everything!

Good choice!

That's neat, and quite the appropriate media.
