A few years ago, when I was applying to grad school, I made a new portfolio site that had a carnival game theme, and I created an animated gif for the splash screen. It was a spinning ticket that would change to a ripped version of itself when the mouse was over it. The ticket was modeled and animated in 3d Studio Max, with textures in Photoshop.
