INSTRUCTIONS: Learn a skill that isn't marketable.

This one might get wordy...

You see, I started this task in May. I was staying at my boy's place in Winona, and it was huge and empty. And I was like, I'm going to do a handstand. With my feet agains the wall of course, because that's the only way I can do it. But I was like, a handstand is totally unmarketable! So I kept on doing it. Over and over. I thought about the fact that if I joined the circus it would be marketable, but as often as I think of leaving law school for the circus, is just doesn't happen. And I decided that if doing a handstand became marketable I would totally withdraw this task. I was doing handstands all over, at the park, in my sister's room, at partys. But I still couldn't do it without someone to hold my feet. Everytime I tried I ended up in a big puddle of splat.

Now, all this time, this was a one-woman show.

But there is a side story that becomes very important later: there once was a movie named Serenity. And that movie had some sneak previews here, in MPLS0. And they sold out everytime, in like seconds. But I magically got a ticket through a series of shady but perfectly legal moves that I will not now divulge. S4 happens to work next door to the theater, and went in to see if, by some magical bit of luck, he would be coming to movie tonight. And lo, against all odds he had secured tickets for himself and the pretty pretty Bug who frequently accompanies him! He yelled it across the store, and I was moving very quickly towards him, and just, just, automatically it seemed, we went for the high five. And it was the most solid high five I've ever had! It made a sound like thunder, and my hand hurt for days. It was so expressive. It was so public, yet private. It really took our relationship to a new level. (On a side note, Spacebug rode her motorcycle so fast that night she totally took on a new level of hot biker bitch. It was a night of level-ups for us all I believe).

So, yeah. I'm an accomplished high-fiver. But I wasn't, you know, an AMBI-fiver. My left hand was totally useless. So at Burning Man this year I stated that from this day forth, until mastery was achieved, I would be a left-hand high-fiver only. And this challenge was willingly taken up by the MPLS0 crew!

We left hand high fived off bikes, off merry-go-rounds, on foot and on rollerskates. I have carried this through for a few weeks now, and I can say, I am an excellent high-fiver. I know of no market for this skill. But it has led to a great feeling of accomplishment.

Testimonials in response to my statement "Oh, no, I only give left-handed high-fives now, sorry."

"Well, that was really crappy. Can we try again?"- Chad, law student, Saint Paul, MN.
"OK. Wait, what the fuck?" - M. Mitch, law school BFF, Saint Paul, MN
"Awesome!"- Little brother, Minneapolis, MN

Definately not! That is GREAT!
It was actually a party for my lawschool friend, and the goal was to have a very small party with only people that he knows, and not to overwhelm the party with my friends.
SORRY!
But, I am always down for a Harry Potter party, so you should throw one too. We know all sorts of cool stuff now.

On a side note: we could duel in public!

Lefty high fives are a great idea for a non-marketable skill!
