The Fun Accident by raccoon
November 18th, 2007 1:18 PM
Well this happened a few years back, so i hope its still valid. but just because i didnt know this task existed doesnt mean i didnt document it in its entirety. in fact this is a second instance of the future for me.. see lets just say that in the past i knew this task would need completion so i prepped for it.
anyway.
+++++WARNING, THERE ARE SOME GRAPHIC IMAGES COMING++++++
When i was in college i had some good friends and we had some good times, i had a best friend who would do all the things i loved to do and be mostly ridiculous. in fact, i think he would love this site and i need to go invite him now.....
ok.
we were watching a show in the basement of my college and were out front of the college during intermission.
All of a sudden the lights blinked twice and it was ON.
intermission was ending and we had to get back inside, down the hall, down the stairs, down another hall and thru the door to our seats.
without even saying "race you" we were both off.
Into the building.
down the hall.
NECK AND NECK
around the bend
NECK AND NECK
down the stairs
I PULL AHEAD
down the hall
NECK AND NECK
THE DOORS, THE DOORS ARE RIGHT THERE AND NO ONE KNOWS WHO WILL WIN!
in a moment of inspiration my friend cuts to the right, in front of me, and grabs for the door to close it behind him and cut me off just short of the goal.
I SEE IT IN HIS EYES
i match his spin, passing over the threshold inches before him and inches before the door, my back crossing first, my arms outstretched in triumph and exertion
when
i place my hand into the hinges of the door, and he finally slams it shut and into place.
these kinds of doors.
the part where it says "push bar to open" is what i am staring at, facing the bar at my belly, the door closed and my left arm out with my fingers disappearing into some dark crack.
+++++SERIOUSLY, BLOOD AND STUFF DONT LOOK IF YOU ARE NOT INTO THAT+++++++++
i pushed the bars, opened the door, cupped my hand and lay down on the ground. i knew something was wrong. someone said "hey man are you ok? can i see your hand?" and i rolled back my right hand so he could see and he looked at it. and his face went white and he said "oh fuck" and i got a little worried.
so i looked down.

it looked kinda like that, but from my top view.
that kink in my middle finger is where the top half of it broke in teh second knuckle and came completely off from the rest of my hand, cutting the nerves and artery but being held on by skin and also having broken the knuckle at the end of the last section in a v.
this is my friend who did it to me and me, in shock. we asked the paramedic for a picture. my friend had his camera.(this was after i got up, made some jokes and bled on the floor, went to the buildings security office and was like "i need an ambulance" and they were all "what's wrong" and i was all *shows them my hand*

me in the hospital(i haven't looked at these in years and it is kind of fucking me up seeing them again)

this is the part where the med student is putting a 12 gauge needle between my fingers and into the nerve bundle in the middle of my hand. funny thing about nerve bundles is they are really sensitive to being stabbed directly. this was easily the most painful moment of the night as i had no more adrenaline etc to take away what this actually felt like. a cool rush as fluid enters your body and blood....

i convinced myself that i would hear it when they "set" my bones and i did not want to know, finally being numb enough to ignore anything they did. so i put on some tunes and looked happy at now 2 or 3 in the morning.

after they set my finger my artery opened again and i was without scabs so the blood came and it came freely.
and they just had me sit there like that for a while, which was pretty amazing, but i had been thru so much that seeing my own arm pouring my own blood all over itself and me was not really a big deal.

they cleaned me up, splinted me, wrapped me up and sent me out at 8am. i went to my colleges equipment center took out a bolex 16mm camera, a small set of tweenie hot lights, some other gear and carted it across town on the T to shoot my final project for my first film class.
i had set up the actors and the places and litterally had no other chance to make it up. i had no crew, set the lights, loaded the camera, shot the film etc with one right hand and an immobile still numb stump.
eventually two pins would hold the end of my finger on, with one going thru the knuckle to hold it together.
i still have the pins and splint from when they removed them.
=D
anyway.

Looks like your off site image host doesn't want to be your off site image host.
But, the description and one viewable image is plenty. Yikes! That's one hell of an accident.
