i was walking around sf
no clue where
but
i saw a homeless person with long tangled hair
with all kinds of stuff in it
his beard was very similar
this man had adapted to the cold streets very well
the rat's nest of hair he had, through god knows how much grease and dirt built up in it, had become an amazing insulator
his beard had a similar function
also,
by moving very infrequently, the need for food was nowhere near as high as that of an active man
while his position in the world was not exactly what i would call comfortable
he was certainly surviving
