Remove A Task: The Task by Aaron
July 4th, 2006 11:31 AM
I nominate Tag With del.icio.us for archival or removal.
This task, which currently is valued at zero points, does not, in my opinion, serve any positive purpose to SF0 and if anything, dilutes the overall quality of the tasks on the site.
Although most are familiar with del.icio.us, some are not and I'll briefly explain the service: It's essentially is an advanced hybrid of your browser's bookmarks and a social networking service. Comparatively, it's like Flickr but for websites you browse instead of photos. There are features such as "tagging" that make sorting through your (or your friends') bookmarks generally more intelligent than most browsers' bookmarking systems. The site is a recent acquisition by Yahoo! (Dec 2005). For more information, read Wikipedia's entry on del.icio.us.
Completion of this task, based off of studying the seventeen people that have completed it, including myself, seems to only accomplish one of two things:
I don't find tasks that take 30 seconds favorable, nor do I think tasks that force you to create an account with a specific entity are positive to the game overall.
Additionally, the results of task completion do not necessarily do any good for SF0 or for other people overall. There isn't any value to having added SF0's task list into your del.icio.us bookmarks. This is unlike the Wikipedia task, for example, which could be argued as helping build awareness and providing more complete information about SF0 to the uninitiated masses. (I'm not a fan of the Wikipedia task either but I will leave that to someone else to analyze if they wish to.)
Lastly, the task can work collaboratively: up to 1000 people. I don't understand how you can collaboratively add a bookmark. Eight people, including myself, have collaborated on it though. :-)
Thank you for considering this task for archival or removal.

- If you already have a del.icio.us account, you can get an SF0 task completion in less than thirty seconds.
- If you do not have a del.icio.us account, it causes you to create one.

I second. It doesn't add anything to the game, except possibly search engine ranking. If that was the goal then it should be, "Post about sf0 on your blog" or something.

Very interesting, citizen. We're impressed by your thorough study.
