Mic Night by Sara Johnsen

my band "go away please stay" played our first show in oakland on sunday night.
i am not afraid and do not get bonus points, but it was pretty weird to play here (california), since i am used to playing in chicago in front of mostly people i know in other bands.
the sound guy made us a recording for proof from the board, which was nice. he also put random delay on parts of my vocals, which was infuriating.
about halfway through our set, the single power strip the entire sound system was plugged into fell from the ceiling where it was inexplicably affixed, shutting off the sound system and leaving us up there singing into dead mics along to the only remaining amped sound, the guitar. we sort of stood around for a few endless awkward minutes while the sound guy fixed the situation, and then the recording comes back in a few measures into the last song, skipping a whole song between, which is ok anyway, since we accidentally left the key instrument for that song at home. some of my coworkers came, and all of my lovely roommates.
there's nothing like singing in front of your coworkers to highlight how excruciatingly emo your lyrics are.
i think we'll try this again sometime.

I spent most of my time at Grinder/Homolatte, and occasionally got out to the odd show like the Feast of Fools.
Three and a half years gone and a lot of venue names escape me. Damn.
I'm sure I'll get the chance...
