Object of My Affection by Sara Johnsen

June 30th, 2006 10:08 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Write a creepy love song for the object of your affection. Submit the recording of it.

"sigh & goodbye"
i must admit i didn't think we'd end up like this. i was younger then. i've spent the time since then trying to forget. i almost did.

that's when i see you. i know it's not true. i might never get over you.

just sigh and say goodbye. it's been so long i forget how to try. can't help remembering you like you're mine, but you were never mine, so sigh and goodbye.

i must admit i ran as far away as i did to get close to you. i'll admit i love and dread the letters you send. here there's nothing new.

if i could just hear you tell me it's not true. i don't want to get over you now. i can't believe that after all we said, you're still a mystery. i'm just history.

Wow that's great! I'm not sure about the creepiness factor though. Maybe I just need to take a harder look at the lyrics.

This is always a precarious situation...

You did an awesome job w/ the task, but ...

Song = Amazing
Song does not = Creepy

The lyrics are somewhat inaudible w/ my headphones, so that might be the problem though...

hmmm.

the lyrics are about being obsessed with being with someone who doesn't return the sentiment. i find that pretty creepy.

i didn't want to contextualize it, but it's about my old band and about my friend's fixation on a girl. i made the music poppy on purpose to make the lyrics spookier. the backing vocals, big muff, chord phrasing, and rhythmic/lyric reference to a journey song are all elements lifted from my old bands' musical output.

but, does it still count as creepy if it's not creepy out of context? confounding!
