Wear Your Art As Your Sleeve by Skitz Ø

I've been toying with the idea of doing this one for awhile. I not only had the idea, but I also had the supplies, the sources, and the skills, I just hadn't gotten around to it. Well, today that changed. I've been wanting something to task in, something that says "Yep, there's Skitz." Well, I usually wear a hat anyways so taking an old one and personalizing it a bit wouldn't be too far of a stretch.
I decided to do this with a little thing I learned called bleach tattooing. The basics are you make a stencil then spray bleach on it. Simple, no? Well, it was actually harder than I thought. My first idea was just to do this like I would if I were doing stencil graffiti.

You'll notice that I decided not to do the UA symbol. I've always held more of an affinity towards S.N.I.D.E. Their philosophy pretty much sums up my life. My tasking hat would reflect that and so I claim this hat in the name of S.N.I.D.E.
Anyways, I found a major flaw in my plan. The entire emblem was a bit too complex for such a small scale (roughly 2.5" high), especially with cardboard.

This is where I had an epiphany. My new plan was to cut the emblem out with wax paper, which would serve the purpose of blocking the bleach, and then glueing it to a paper towel, which would let bleach through but keep the emblem together.

Even with wax paper, the S.N.I.D.E. emblem proved too crowded for me. I did two changes at this point. One, I converted my emblem to just the heading above the emblem, and two, I placed my outline behind the wax paper. Previously, with this project and other stencils, I have had the problem that I just don't go all the way through my stencil while I'm cutting. I have to go back through and touch up some areas. With opaque wax paper, I can still me my stencil and ensure that I have clear cuts

After a few practice stencils and some testing on an old T-shirt, I was confident that I had the method down.

In the end, it worked!

Pretty rough, and I kind of wish the symbol was more clear but in the end, I'll be wearing this hat more often and I kind of like how it turned out red.

I used to have a hat like that. i love what you did with yours!
Well, its not a shirt, and its not the UA logo, but I still like your completion of this task. Your hat look pretty cool, too! ^_^
