The Callouses on Your Hands by GirlandHerRobot

I have a small red scar on the palm of my hand from a hockey injury that occurred two years ago and required minor surgery. During a particularly aggressive play during a hockey game, my glove slid off and another players stick rubbed against my palm. This player's stick was old and splintering and pieces of the stick were lodged into the palm of my hand. I removed many small pieces with tweezers, but at least one large piece remained under the skin and, after a couple of days, it was showing signs of infection. Most hockey sticks are comprised of a fiberglass material, which makes the piece embedded in my hand dangerous to leave. I was given a local anesthetic (very large needle directly into my palm) and was able to watch at the doctor removed the remaining pieces of the stick from my hand. I healed with no issues, but the small scar at the bottom of my hand still remains.
