Journey to the End of the Night: Chicago/DC 2009 by Simon Leavitt

It started out really well. My friends and I in Chicago had the address for the secret checkpoint right when the game started. Little did we know that this would eventually lead to our downfall. When the game started, I was nearly tagged by a guy on a bike wielding a tennis racket. Fortunately, I was able to weave out of his way and head north, throwing off pursuit by going in the opposite direction of the first checkpoint at Roosevelt and Michigan. This allowed my friends and I to catch a bus to the checkpoint. This went smoothly and we learned what to look for at the next checkpoint. We cut through my friends building across the street and made it to the Roosevelt red line station. After we hit the second checkpoint, we spent about an hour making our way to the third checkpoint, during which time we ducked into the whole foods and all used the women's bathroom, as the men's room was locked. We managed to make it over to Halsted without sighting any of the catchers and got on a bus heading south. The plan was originally to hit the third checkpoint, and then double back to the secret checkpoint. However, once we were on the bus, we ran into some other players, and they told us that the secret checkpoint counted as two. We headed there immediately, which, in hindsight, was ill-advised. There were probably 10 chasers there waiting for us, with very little in the way of a safe zone. I was caught here, and immediately became a chaser. Luckily for me, there were a number of people who had the same idea I had, and I managed to quickly claim a blue ribbon. However, when I was pursuing another person, I tripped and fell, scraping my knee and hurting my arm (the full extent of this I'm still not sure of, but it hurts like a bitch). This effectively removed me from the game, and I went over to my friend's house, who had also been caught, and proceeded to drink some tequila.

You know, it turns out that I actually fractured my arm when I biffed it. Oh well, it's all part of being a rock star. ;]
I'm really grateful to the folks manning the checkpoint for hooking me up with some ice. Thanks for the vote and putting this event together, Dax. It was a blast!

Wow, a broken arm it is. I wish we had a "best injury" trophy like DC had.
Post a picture of the cast when you get it!
Wonderful injury - add that to your list of game trophies ;)
I'm glad you made it as far as you did, and for doing your best to pick up the bonus checkpoint.
