Journey to the End of the Night: Chicago/DC 2009 by The Hiatus
May 3rd, 2009 2:37 PMNotes from a chaser in a gorilla suit
Chicago looks at you a little differently when you're wearing a gorilla suit -- even if you're not wearing the head. I wish I could've worn the head, but the obstructed view would have handicapped my already speed-limited chaser abilities. Also, it smelled bad.
The positive responses far outweighed the negative ones. I think people like being chased by a gorilla. It's like being chased by a friendly dog with no fear of biting or rabies (I hope.)
Sure, those three kids I chased who weren't playing might have been a bit confused, and the policeman who stopped me seemed upset I wasn't wearing the mask, but all in all I'd say my first experience as a staff chaser was a success. Thanks Dax for another fabulous Journey.

Awesome. I love how the cop wanted you to have the mask on.
BTW, I would have at least considered cutting out the eyeholes to expand them.

Unfortunately it was a borrowed gorilla suit so I couldn't make any special modifications... aside from my own runner's stink.

Gorillas chasing innocents is one of the best things that could happen.

I loved your costume (honestly, I loved every costume) I got tagged by the chicken (I still think it's a funny story!)
I never in a million years imagined that I would organize a game where innocent people would be chased through the streets of Chicago by a gorilla. Thanks Evan!
