The Aesthetics of Minutiae by Water Dragon

October 23rd, 2006 6:51 PM

INSTRUCTIONS:

All those paintings of women, in art galleries, surprised at private moments. Nymph Sleeping. Susanna and the Elders. Woman Bathing, one foot in a tin tub -- Renoir, or was it Degas? Both, both women plump. Diana and her maidens, a moment before they catch the hunter's prying eyes. Never any paintings called Man Washing Socks in Sink.

--Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin

Create a visual depiction of a private moment that no one is likely to care about.

The first thing I thought of when I read 'private moment' was taking a crap. Most people consider this to be a very private moment indeed and are not fond of other people being around when they are doing it. Furthermore it seems like the sort of thing that most people would be completely disinterested in looking at. I suppose there are some deviants who might find such things exciting but I tried to make the depiction very bland and not sexual to make sure they wouldn't be interested.

I also decided to pose in a way that was reminiscent of but not quite like "The Thinker" by Rodin in order to make the piece seem more Artsy and because I tend to think quite a bit when I am sitting on the crapper. I suspect other people do too. I used my "mad Photoshop skilz" to make it a bit more artistic.

I call it 'Thinker on The Crapper'.
