Placepoem by Whistle Fish

July 31st, 2010 2:16 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Write a poem about your favorite place, by only assembling text you find in that place.

1. Go to the place you want to write a poem about.
2. Find some text. E.g. street signs, advertising posters, graffiti, garbage etc.
3. Document the text you find - take pictures, or just note down what you find and where.
4. Cut and paste until you have a poem.
5. Post it here, along with documentation of the texts and the place.

Rules: You may insert three words which are your own (that you have not found on the location).

(Disclaimer: This task is inspired by the textopia research project, textopia.org . If you find it interesting, please put your poem there as well (and a sound recording of it), and a special place in heaven will be reserved for you!)

Went to lunch at Applebee's today. (Received the best treatment I ever have in my life at a restaurant. It was surprising.) Of course, sitting there waiting for my food I remembered this task, and if you've ever been to Applebee's you know there's a TON of stuff all over the walls. The perfect place to write a poem. I was sitting in a section near a lot of old movie type stuff. I managed to get a couple pictures, a little hard to get the pictures of things far away. Here's the text:

Perfect Fiesta Experts
With magnificent wind,
Clark Gable drinks
until midnight or later.
Hollywood men buy western shirts
and wear authentic Merita pants.
Mad Hatter Party winner:
Srgt. Pepper plays golf with friends.
Locker room social:
Prizes for the best Uncle Sam look.
Retro picture of moderation.
My sweet wife has the fastest meltdown.
Skinny Elvis blackout party:
Wear your whitest whites.

**No extra words were used in this poem.

Hope you enjoyed it. : )

I like this poem but am a little disturbed by the idea that this poem is about your favorite place...
