Work is So Strange by A C

February 6th, 2012 4:14 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Describe in some detail the strangest thing that happened to you at work in the past week. If you don't work, describe the strangest thing that happened to you during a leisure activity.

I work at subway in a little redneck town in Florida, so there is no shortage of strange characters that come in for sandwiches.

Last week I went to open the door at 7 am and there was a strange looking old woman. As soon as I unlocked the door she walked in without a word, and didn't respond when I said good morning. As I walked back to make the coffee she said ,"I didn't know you had coffee." To which I responded, "Yes mam, we just started having it with breakfast." She then proceeded to ask me whether or not we had old turkey, I told her that our turkey was not old and asked if she would like to try a piece. She responded with the same question, "Is that the old turkey?" After we went back and forth a few times she finally conceded to try the turkey. She took a bite, threw it out and said she didn't like it, and proceeded to leave subway.

A few hours later she returned, came to the front and asked for me. When I came up from she asked, again, "Do you have coffee?" To which I responded, "yes mam we still have coffee, would you like some?" She just stared at me eerily and said, "No. I like mcdonalds coffee." I responded, "Yeah.....they have good coffee I guess." She stared at me for few seconds as I shifted nervously and said, "I'm sorry honey, I don't like women." She then winked at me, and walked away.

Definitely one of the weirdest experiences I've had at work. Luckily my co worker was there to witness the whole thing, or I doubt anyone would have believed me.

There was another time that a lady ordered a sandwich while holding and white and black spotted rabbit like a baby, but I think that still isn't as crazy as the lady who did not want our old turkey.

That is pretty strange. I could only guess that she was remembering some turkey sandwich from the past and asking you if you had that variety, while not being able to really identify it with any better name than that old turkey?

I'm not really sure, I've never seen her before which is odd. We have a pretty high homeless population in the area but they generally frequent often, so we know who is who and what quirks they have.
