INSTRUCTIONS: Eat a food that frightens you.

main_2010-07-141913092145.jpg So alittle back story on this. The water and I have a love hate relationship, I love it, it mostly hates me and tries to kill me whenever possible. In other words I have almost drowned 3 different times. Now one might assume this would give me a very rational fear of swimming, but I love to swim so instead it has croped up as an irrational fear of seafood.
Ok so I decided to combine this with try to yummy. Now this may seem weird but most of my friends love a type of food that scares me to death. What you may ask is this terrifiying food..... sushi. Sushi? you ask, yes sushi, the mere smell of fish use to make me nauseous and the thought of eating seaweed is completely unappealing. So tonight when Mobious sugested we task, I thought two for one. I knock this one out and we both get try to yummy.
So we walked to the sushi place around the corner from my home, ordered 4 different rolls and some steamed soybeans and sat down. The food arrived and I stealed my self. I ate one piece from each roll a half dozen soybeans and some pickled ginger.
The verdict, pickled ginger is quite good, soybeans not as bad as I thought, sushi would be better if it didn't have fish or seaweed in it, but then it wouldn't be sushi. The california roll was too bitter with the seaweed overwhelming the taste of anything else, the philadelphia roll was the best of the lot with the creamcheese almost completely blocking out the taste of fish, the rainbow roll was so bad I only managed half of it, and the spicy tuna roll was more bold than i expected, but not in a good way.
So , does seafood still scare me? Yup, accually putting it in my mouth and trying to concentrate on the flavors was probably the hardest thing I've done in weeks, but now noone will try to make me have sushi again for at least a decade.main_2010-07-141931292147.jpgmain_2010-07-141934192149.jpg
