The Callouses on Your Hands by Zenobia

So it was a warm morning arround 13 years ago. I was in my second class of the day, metal shop. I don't quite remember the project I was working on but it required long skinny pieces of metal with rounded edges. I put on my safety goggles, making sure i would not get metal shavings in my eyes and proceeded to set the speed on the metal grinder. I noticed the guard was at the wrong angle so I realigned it, not noticing that the grinder had already taken a small bite out of the guard. A small bite the exact width of my metal bar, so all unknowing I start up the machine and get to work. About 12 seconds into my endeavors the grinder gabs the metal from my hand and throws it to the floor, I reach down to retrieve my metal and realize I am bleeding, heavily. leaving my metal where it fell i walk calmly over to my shop teacher (yay fo shock!) and request his attention, he tells me to wait a second, i respond with, "but I'm bleeding". He quickly got up to look, hitting his head on the under carraige of the car he was working, and saw that yes indeed i was bleeding. i was politely holding my hand over my other hand, so I would get blood on the floor. (I was such a polite child.) He got up ran to the sink and wrapped wet towels around my hand, then it was off to the hospital. My mom meets me at the hospital to find they have already given me three shots of morphine for the pain so thet they could do the internal, then external stiches. They had not checked my medical records before doing so, I have an interesting reaction to morphine, it is not a sedative to me it is a stimulant. I tried my hardest to hold still as they started the stitches, my mother realized what must have happened and got it sorted out and i was given something to conteract the morphine and then a different painkiller/sedative and they finished the stitches.
