Ethereal Cartography by Evil Bob

February 8th, 2009 10:50 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a map of something that does not exist physically.

Had a hard time thinking of what to do for this one, so I ended up doing another map relating to human emotion. I've gone through some rough times lately, and sort of ended up in a vicious self-destructive cycle due to my depression at being unable to deal with some of my problems.

This map outlines the mental states and coping methods involved in the day to day routine of this cycle, beginning with lethargy as I tried, often unsuccessfully, to get myself out of bed each morning, going through the different stages of each day, before ending back up at lethargy, when I can no longer convince myself to stay awake.

At the center of this path is "Temporary Relief" symbolized by a lit cigarette. Probably the most notable trait during this path was my increasing chain smoking habit, unable to go between even simple tasks without taking a break to go out and smoke.

Despite smoking and other coping mechanisms, I would eventually give into attempting to just drown my feelings in booze. This would go on until I would reach the point where the suppressed inhibitions of my drunken state would release my aggressive feelings, causing me to violently lash out until I would finally simply stop caring, going into the apathetic state that would lead into simply going back into bed, at which point the cycle would begin the next day.
