This is really cool...

I like seeing cool task completions from before my time...but it makes me sad when those people clearly left the game some time ago.

unfortunately, there seems to be a connection between people who make amazing player photos and people who don't do any tasks after that...

That's not entirely true. (It does seem feel true, though; I haven't run the numbers, but I suspect it's a subjective validation effect--we feel strongly the memory of those who did something impressive, then stopped, so we weight it more highly.)
