Household evolution by Kaiya K

INSTRUCTIONS: Choose one inanimate object in your home.

Describe how this object evolved from an ancestor species in terms of natural selection.

For this I decided to go with the microwave oven.

The microwave has come a long way since it's first disappointing design in 1947. The original ovens were huge and expensive, standing 5 1/2 feet tall, weighing over 750 pounds, and costing about $5000 each.

(see image 1)

1967 saw the release of the first compact microwave called the Radarange, a 115v countertop model with just two buttons, start and light (on/off). It also included two control knobs, one for cooking times up to five minutes, and the other for longer cooking times up to 25 minutes.

(see image 2)

In this day and age microwaves have come a long way since it's original design, with many different designs and functions it's versatility and convienience is something many of us cannot live without in society's modern and busy lifestyle.

Nice to see another EquivalenZ player on the scene. Welcome!

I joined SFZero earlier this year, so I know it can seem a little confusing at first. Message me if you've got any questions.

And drop me a line if you want to collaborate on one of the higher scoring tasks. I could be your mentor if you like!
