INSTRUCTIONS: Explore your neighborhood in deepest, darkest night.

Share photographs and other impressions of your exploration.

Welcome to my midnight neighborhood; its streets devoid of people by nine. Let's see what we can find.

Where I live

Where I live

I'm glad somebody labeled the place.

My front yard

My front yard

I live behind this.

I heart alliteration.

I heart alliteration.

My calm cul-de-sac

My calm cul-de-sac

I should say that all of these shots (or most of them) are long exposures taken without a tripod. Any clarity is entirely accidental.

Concord Place

Concord Place

Let's take a walk.

I feel bad for palm trees

I feel bad for palm trees

In storms these trees bend lonely among pines and oak.

Palm trees, moon, and chimney

My neighbor's driveway

My neighbor's driveway

Truck, $35,000.00 Washing machine, $250.00 Refrigerator, $400.00 Making a statement, Priceless.

Around the corner: a boat

Around the corner: a boat

Yes, a boat.

The same boat

The same boat

But with flash!

It's a Classic.

Take the wheel

Take the wheel

and boat into the night.

Moving on

Moving on

Let's cross the intersection. But wait, what's that on the lamp-post?

Tigger!

Tigger!

Awww, let's hope he gets home all right.

Into the park

Into the park

What's that on the A-frame under the lamp?

It's a sign!

It's a sign!

Will they be building something? Digging up sewage pipes? Installing new playground equipment?

Nope

Nope

But apparently I should take an interest in city government if I want to keep boozing in the park on weekdays.

Moving on...

Moving on...

Look, it's something for children to play with. What the hell is it?

Who cares?

Who cares?

Let's just play tic-tac-toe instead.

Or

Or

Shoot some hoops. Maybe while enjoying a fine malt liquor. Of course, it's still important to stay hydrated.

The drinking fountain

The drinking fountain

Delicious, delicious Davis water.

The fountain and my foot

The fountain and my foot

I find it sort of hypnotic. In Davis we all wear flip-flops.

The fountain and the shadow of leaves

The fountain and the shadow of leaves

Now that I've quenched my thirst I'll move on. Deeper into the park.

Fence stains

Fence stains

Years of sprinkler use in dry Davis has made these arched stains.

The path

The path

I'm not going down there. Maybe I should turn back. Yeah, I can check out that driveway freezer.

The driveway freezer

The driveway freezer

What's inside?

What's inside the freezer

What's inside the freezer

What's that in the back?

What's in the back of the freezer

What's in the back of the freezer

Of course. It seems so obvious now that I know the answer.

Really, freezers are the best place to hide condoms. That or old boats.

I love these pictures, some of them are quite eerie.

It was the captions that did it for me! I had no idea that there were such interesting things in Davis.....it's been a while since I've found condoms in my freezer.

Oh man, I think that Tic-Tac-Toe board is about a 100 yards from the house where I grew up.

I've never been to Davis, and never suspected it was such an eerie, sinister, sandal-wearing place.
