Your Phobia by K!

May 18th, 2007 1:26 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document a phobia or phobias that you have. Put it to the test.

I actually have two phobias. The first one is a fear of medication and drugs. I've made considerable progress with that one over the years; I used to freak out over acetaminophen. However, that phobia is not one I can really put to the test unless I am actually in need of medication. Alas.

Fortunately I have another phobia. (Fortunately? Hmm...) I have a fear of calling people on the phone, especially people I don't know. Strange, yes, but there you go. No trouble sending them emails, or meeting them face to face... just something about the phone.

I need voice lessons this summer, so I looked up a voice teacher I've never met before and I called her. The necessity of voice lessons overpowered the fear of calling a stranger. Hooray! However, I left a message on the machine, so it was really only a partial victory. Perhaps I will update this when she calls back.

UPDATE: Well, she called back, and I think I did okay talking to her. I did not have all the information I needed when she called, so I had to call her AGAIN. However, the second time is always easier. And now I'm set up for voice lessons. Huzzah!

Only you and like... most of the rest of the world. Ugh, phone calls.

Yeah, I always prefer to leave a message. I don't know why because it's futile to constantly play phone tag....

I personally think it's a combination of having to... basically intrude on someone's time without any idea of whether it's welcome or not, and also the time investment involved in phone calls.

YES! That is exactly what it is. I'm always worried I'm disturbing people.
