Celebrity by K!

June 7th, 2007 2:46 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Trace your genetic line to a celebrity.
If you cannot find one make one up.
Boast about how you are related to that celebrity for a day.

I am related to a saint. Seriously.

I had been told this by my paternal grandmother in my youth, as the saint is from her bloodline. Her maiden name is Bourgeois. (It's French... it kind of sounds likes booshwah.) However, I had kind of forgotten about it until I saw this task.

So I used google to look up St. Margaret Bourgeoys, and I found her! She was born and raised in France but went on a mission to Canada, where she founded the Sisters of Notre Dame in Montreal. If you are curious, go here: http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=5985

Does ths make me very slightly holy? I don't know, especially since it's a pretty distant relation, and plus you'd have to believe in that sort of thing. But it's still kind of cool.

UPDATE: As for boasting, it's not something that I'm very good at, but I gave it a shot in the following IM conversation with a friend:

Me: I want to brag now. :D

Captain O'Time: Go ahead.

Me: I got my driver's permit again today!

9:15 PM

Captain O'Time: Yay!

Me: Also, I am related to a saint.

Captain O'Time: ...Really?

Me: No joke. http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=5985

Captain O'Time: Wow, that's something.

Me: :)

St. Margaret Bourgeoys... a pious lady with a hard-to-pronounce name.

That's neat!
I'm curious in what sorts of contexts you will boast about this relation. Since the person is a saint, it kind of opens up interesting possibilities.

Wow, someone actually completed the *whole* task, bragging and all. Bravo. Way too many people only do half the task.

Too bad St. Margaret doesn't have any really cool miracles to her name.

Well, actually...

To be canonized, a person has to have two miracles attributed to them after they die. However, I've done additional research and can't seem to find said miracles. Perhaps they were not very noteworthy miracles.
There is one that might have counted, but it was before she died. It was a kind of sickness-transfer thing... you can find it here in the last paragraph: http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saintm15.htm

On a related note, my boyfriend is related to St. John Bosco.
