The Medium Score Task by Flitworth
November 26th, 2007 8:18 AMlike a piece of spinach stuck on your mental teeth: you just keep poking at it, trying to deal with it passively while attending to other activities. All the office supply and stationary stores around my neighborhood (of which there are several) carry "craft wire" and I have long wanted to do something with it and I realized that I could have my own Sutro Tower! With hookers! And blackjack! So then I went to the effort of building one only to finally mentally register that I couldn't sign up for the Low Score Task.
But I can complete this one! I happily went about making a flag in honor of DC0! If you send me a flag it can live with my flag under my personal Sutro Tower on top of the frigidaire.
[1] Let's ignore the fact that I am not eligible for the Low Score Task, OK? I was having a moment.
[Update]
The zombie glows in the dark. This is the first time he has been on official display and it's kinda creepy at night. It made me think of a poem by Shel Silverstein, (but not):
On my frigidaire,
He stands and stares, too dumb to care.
With his fist on a flag,
And his eyes on the prize,
He reeks of old brains,
Is attracting the flies.
He glows in the dark,
He's guarding the tower,
He's there on a lark,
And could use a shower.
But, all the same,
If he's thinking of brains,
He ought not be there,
Causing a scare,
That zombie on there,
On my frigidaire.
Materials

Post-creation pile of materials, including prototypes of of the top cross-hatching of the tower.
O Noes!

A zombie adherent of DC0 approaches with a flag. Only the undead can survive the intense radiation of Wicked Awesome coming from the tower!

beats the shit out of the Villain's silly diorama.
It's always a tough call but I actually hadn't yet run across other recreations of the tower in the Praxis...The attempt was sincere and took actual effort. A google map picture is usually the first to cross ones mind for those of us who are distant but that's why I built my own.
There are arguments for the point value either way. The question (for me) really becomes whether you think 75 points of effort (minimally) or fantastic creativity were placed in the task by the player. I accept the will of the people on this (including flagging). I'm often surprised my completions get votes anyway and the tower remains, with all the hookers and blackjack I can muster, whether I get points or not.
...and after some investigating....
The Villain's diorama is great. I was afraid to do the colours after building the tower as its not especially sturdy for wrapping ribbons around and I have yet to find coloured tape or, more importantly, spray paint around here.
Plus, the zombie´s eyes and untucked shirt and the spinach/mental teeth image. 75 points, so there!
Shel Silverstein rocks. And that poem is freakishly appropriate.
I can sympathize with not living in SF. I think it's kind of funny that no SF folks have tried to complete this task yet... therefore, chalk one up for us. :)
I'll admit, I was rather torn on this one. On the one hand, it's nice to have this as a somewhat hard-core Sutro Tower exclusive (like I definitely feel the High Score Task is). On the other, I obviously support other-city-zeroes. Still, it's a 75 point task, which is not insignificant, and I'm not sure I can encourage a host of diorama completions for that level (one can only stand so many Google Maps pictures of Sutro Tower; this was a nice diorama, though).
In the end, though, Zombie + DC0 flag sold me. :) All right, fine--the DC0 flag sold me, and the zombie was just a bonus.
