Damaged Mail by Gadget

April 6th, 2006 2:17 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Obtain a US postal "damaged mail bag" by sending a damaged and/or inappropriate piece of mail to yourself, a friend, a neighbor, or a coworker. Submit a scan or photograph of the mail in the "damaged" bag to complete the task. What is damaged, anyway?

Here's the piece that inspired this task. Note the envelope covered in (my) hair. I can't wait to see what others come up with.

Hair Mail

We're sorry... we don't know how our machine covered your envelope in hair, but here it is in a bag so that it can't accidentally get covered in more hair.

After seeing this I started to wonder how a postal employee would respond to such an item (especially before it was safely inside of it's plastic baggie). . .what ever the response, I'm sure it made for some quality water cooler conversation. Also, it reminded me of this part in "How to Draw a Bunny" where Ray Johnson's mail carrier was talking about some of the insane mail he received over the years--a mannequin head among other things. Ray Johnson seems to have been a little crazy, but his mail hardly compares with this "innovative" use of unwanted body matter.
