Work is So Strange by Zoo Monster

May 10th, 2006 2:19 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Describe in some detail the strangest thing that happened to you at work in the past week. If you don't work, describe the strangest thing that happened to you during a leisure activity.

Although I am not a Nun, I do work with Nuns (this comes up later).

Pre-Lunch: The first thing I heard when I got to work was a horrible noise coming from the Xerox machine (think: nails on a chalkboard). Because of the proximity of the machine to my office, it falls under my duties to make sure it works properly. When I called the official Xerox help line I spoke with a nice guy who just kept asking, “is the noise coming from the Xerox logo?”. When I said that I didn’t understand the question and tried to explain that something in the machine was making the noise, he said, “yeah, but is it the logo?” The conversation continued as follows:
Him: “is the logo making the noise?”
Me: “behind the logo or the logo itself?”
Him: “is the LOGO making noise?”
Me: “umm. . .well no, its has no ability to make noise. It is a logo.”
Him: “hmm, interesting. . .[pause]. . .let’s try something else.”
The repairperson should be here soon.

Post-Lunch: In the afternoon I had a staff meeting. At the end of the meeting I left with one of the nuns I work with. My companion was a nun who literally farted the entire way—one continuous fart out the building, down a flight of stairs, across a small parking lot and into the other building. She talked the whole time as if nothing were happening. The truly funny part about this is that it happens so often it doesn’t even faze me anymore. Is this what it means to be old? Does this just happen to Nuns? If it happens to everyone, at what age does it start? At what age do you stop being embarrassed about farting loudly in public? Is this a trait that only nuns have? It is impressive. I’m glad my office fosters open farting. . .but maybe I need a sign for my office. . .
