Stripping by GlyphGryph

October 28th, 2008 2:49 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a series of short comic strips and post them, at regular intervals, in a public place for all to see.

Comic strips, eh? I think I can do that...

:::scribbles furiously:::

Aha! Complete... now to find a place to post them...

Beautiful isn't it? That's not actually where I ended up posting them, mind you, I just really like the picture. The building I posted them in WAS owned by the same people, and nearby, at least.

Skycity Cinemas... Movie Theater, Mall, Arcade, and more. Bustling with people. Seems promising. Now to find the best place to put them... some place clearly public, but where I could post my strips in seclusion. Some place where people would see it. Where they would read it, as close as I could get to a captive audience, but where there were enough locations for each of my strips to be posted over some sort of spatial interval...

I have it! The bathroom!
Hiding my bike and shouldering my backpack full of (in my dreams) hilarious low level vandalism, I made my way into the building.

Perfect. Four strips, Four stalls. I enter the first one and get to work - the strips are drawn and cut out, all I need to do is tape them up. The bathrooms have regular activity, but as long as I'm careful...

RIIIIIPPPP

Man, in this quiet bathroom, that's a lot louder than I expected it to be. Starting to get tense now. Need to relax. Someone comes in while I work. I leave the toilet, wash my hands, linger at the crappy air dryers. He leaves. Back to work.

One panel up. Two. Three. Four. One full strip up... crap, who's that? I see the reflection in the shiny floor of a man, with a mop and a sign and a blue uniform.

Janitor.

Shit.

I hear him rooting around in the far stalls. If he's cleaning stalls, he'll likely trash the strip. No good. Quietly, I begin to take them back down... too loud. I'm paranoid now. Can't let him catch on hearing strange sounds... Aha! Genius. The pants come down, and I time my rips, concealing them with bodily functions.

I finish, stuff them into my bag, and casually leave. I don't think he suspects anything... but I need a better plan. Ripping and placing was too loud, and took too long. I needed to apply the tape first... but for that I needed cover.

Perfect! No one would suspect someone sitting in the food court with an Ice cream to be up to nefarious ends. Relaxing, I knew with this flawless cover I could work undisturbed.

Also, as you can see, I decided in my naivety to cut out each panel, so I could space them properly and play with panel shapes. That was a time consuming mistake, but it was too late to undo it now. I'd just have to work quick. Finishing up, I headed back to the bathrooms.

Wow. Apparently someone broke in the door. Janitor was just picking up the pieces and putting up a sign...

oh.

crap.

4 Comics. 4 Stalls.

1 Stall is broken.

I'd just have to ignore that. I set to work, placing the strips in the closed stalls first. Right after finishing the first stall, someone went in to use it. I ignored them. Second and fourth stall finished, I entered the broken third stall and posted quickly.

Now to document, and I was finished. Person comes in as I document the first stall. I'm starting to get paranoid again... he looks like an employee. I leave. Hang around at the arcade. Come back again... pass him on the way. I don't meet his eyes.

Back into the stalls. Some quick flashes... and I'm done.

And since I'm next to the arcade anyways, I take a breather and shoot some giant spiders.

Mission complete!
