No two subgroups of the fashion world have clashed so intensely, and with so much flair, as the two that came head to head one fateful afternoon last week.

Alike in dignity...
yet so very different in color scheme and ideas on accessorizing…

Setting the scene:

A cloudy high noon had long come and gone, and the knoll that had been set for battle remained empty—save for afternoon loungers and innocent bystanders. At long last, the hippies amassed, staking out a home base, and then generally milling about. Much (much) later (after properly fastening chokers and perfecting eye liner) the goths clambered onto the scene, united in the war cry “Patchouli is not soap! Patchouli is not soap!” The Gauntlet had been
thrown.

“Wait! You’re supposed to set up on that side!” A hippie protested.

“We want to be over here!” a goth shouted back. “It’s in the shade”.

“Fine, we’ll be on that side then,” retorted the flower child.

Looks of consternation crossed the faces of random onlookers. What was going on? What had they stumbled into? What was happening to their sunny afternoon of lounging on the knoll? Who were these stylistic legions? And why did it seem like the whole area was turning into a scene from West Side Story?

Nervous giggles were heard from the spectators. We had their full attention.

The hippies came together, and began to sing a song of protest. The Goths came together and began to sing a quixotic song of potential dancing. And with that, the combat commenced – as you can watch on the video below.

Be forewarned! The photos and footage you are about to witness are not for the faint of heart!

The trail of carnage and couture left in the wake of this battle may be hard to bear. Flower children defiled by black veils and dark eyeliner. Creatures of the night attacked with glitter bombs and bubbles. Jet black locks of hair impaled with flowers. Soldiers of style downed and writhing in confusion...identities fading as outward appearances become altered.

And in true FOEcakes fashion (ha), these two rival factions come together in the end for the common purpose of destroying the cakes. Um…we mean the punks.





The final tally:

Points go the Hippies for having the best weapons (glitter cannon!?!) and being one of the most ACTIVE groups of hippies we’ve seen to date.

Points go to the Goths for having unified actions and for being highly cohesive in their stylistic choices.

Points go to the Punks for standing their ground and, somewhat sadly, for use of actual violence.
