RAoK/SAoB: the Random Acts of Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty Task 1 by Ink Tea
May 25th, 2006 3:49 PM
On Thursdays in downtown Minneapolis from Mayish through Septemberish, Nicollet Mall, the main thoroughfair through the business district, is inhabited by the farmer's market. Flowers are easily aquired and people mill amiably. I purchased a bouquet of lillies for this project, because they're some of my favorite flowers.
I had the lady at the stand take my photograph with the flowers- you can see my happy bike in the lower left hand corner. People grinned at me holding the flowers and walking the bike, and I couldn't really help grinning back. Even so, I eventually discovered that it's hard to give flowers away.
The first one went to a boy playing his saxophone on the corner of Nicollet and Sixth. He smiled around his mouthpiece as I put the flower in his case. The second one went to a vendor in a cheese hat, because I thought it'd be cute to have a picture of a fellow in a cheese hat, even though I don't endorse cheese myself. He balked and swooned, told me I was making him blush. The third flower went to a north african taxi driver. He wouldn't let me take his photograph, but I insisted he keep the flower anyway. The fourth went to a woman who was crossing the street at the same time I was. The fifth to a suit who was boarding the train, who also declined to let me take his photograph. The sixth went to the woman who sat down next to me on the train, who wouldn't let me take her photo but held the flower out in her hand for you to see. The last went to a fellow on the train just as I was getting off at my stop.

Lovely. Too bad more people don't like their pictures taken.
