Paradise Found by Not Here No More

June 30th, 2009 8:15 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Surrealist poet Louis Aragon said "All paradises are artificial." Select an artificial paradise you find interesting and document its existence.

Coffee.
Coffee.
Coffee.
Coffee.
Coffee.
Coffee.

Coffee.

Bryce's Words:
Most of you who know me know that I have some slight...effects from coffee. These include a mild addiction, not only to the taste, but to the grotesquely extreme effects that come from the chemicals. Caffeine. Caffeine translates into expanded blood vessels, and then translates into adrenaline and serotonin, or something with the same effects, at some point. Adrenaline and Serotonin...the most sought after of the body's chemicals. The most sanguine and (for adrenaline) choleric of hormones and neurotransmitters. But, for me, adrenaline is a very precious substance. As is Serotonin.

See (and this is going to sound very stupid, and very...fine, emo) my body produces just a tad too much adrenaline. Just a tad too much serotonin. I won't go into the details, but this effect, producing too much of these substances, causes another effect. I have to suppress it. I have to take other chemicals that make it so...so I don't have these extremities. Because, with those two good chemicals, the bad ones come as well.

So, here's where we get to coffee.

Coffee, although a legal, and easy to obtain substance, follows the same pattern as above, that of making my brain and body react neurologically and endocrinely in an extreme fashion, far more than the effects that seem to be commonly attributed to coffee. So, it brings things back to how they are...without the other chemicals.

That's why I drink it.

First, before the pictures and everything start, I need to give credit to my friend Hayley who took all of the pictures for this task. Her Øian profile is at http://sf0.org/hayley/ . Check it out. She's awesome. We'll be tasking in the future.

The rest of the task is in the pictures.

Final Thoughts:

All substances that one takes into your body that influence any part of you are simultaneously natural and artificial. This is everything from a book, to cocaine, to a hug.

The only thing that matters is if you're happy right now, and if you'll be happy tomorrow.

Totally agreed.

Also: I wish my body made a tad more serotonin. Serotonin rocks.

EDIT: Also also: You have the perfect title for this task.

A biased view.

I may have enjoyed this one a little extra.
I aproach my dependancy on coffee with a similar joyfull abandon.
This may be due to having similar excesses in my own brain chemistry, or it may be due to joyfull abandon being a common road to many a paradise.
