Note To Players by JTony Loves Brains
December 2nd, 2007 8:21 PMWe can all Imagine.
We can all imagine a brighter future, free from the failings of our institutions, of the human foibles built into the brick walls of our civic centers and private groups.
In doing so we imagine ways to bring about an end to the flaws and mistakes.
Sometimes we imagine destroying those institutions to build fresh, anew. It would be foolish not to admit that thre are times when these tavtics might be necessary, but I also know that those times are few, and yet there will be those who will rush in to shout "Revolution!" They would well be reminded that it is easier to remodel what you have already built than to build on rubble.
There has been a revolution declared against the University of Aesthematics. There has been a call for the citizens of SF0 to take sides. We are here to tell you that there is a third way. Declare here your wish to peacefully work to better the UofA and SF0, and not participate in the revolution, the war against the UofA or the counter-war.
We are nor groups, but people, individuals who share common visions. There is no need for war against a group, but a sharpening of focus on our visions to make all the groups function for all of us, as individuals. Don't choose to enlist as a soldier in an army with a faulty, destructive goal. Instead join us, in peace, to work together to fix what needs fixing. We will get more done, together, focused by peace than we can, separated, by acts of war.
Come on.
Join us.
Give peace a chance.

Revolution by The Beatles
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
Ah
ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...
You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
all right, all right, all right
all right, all right, all right

Isn't SF0 better than the Nutopia?
There is no "not taking sides" - because, despite the fancy rhetoric and Debord quotes, this is fundamentally not about the current era. There's an awful lot of debating going on about whether the UA trajectory is too broad, or other reasons why the University should either not exist or not exist in its current form during Insatiability.
To side with the Revolution is to say you don't want to see the University in the next era; to take the opposite opinion is to make yourself a counter-revolutionary.
Refusing to take sides sounds noble, until you realize that it *can't be done* by any Aesthematician who wants to keep being one when Insatiability rolls around.
I disagree, Mr. Hamilton. I have stated clearly that I like the UofA and I don't think that it should go away. I have also stated that I agree with many of the criticisms of the UofA and would like to work to fix the UofA to satisfy some of those criticisms. This position puts me smack dab between revolutionary and counter-revolutionary fields. If there is not a third way, then where do I fit in? In order to fit in with the Revolutionaries I have to give up my love of the University badge I have worn since joining this game (and the fact that the trajectory of desire of the University, even as she stands, suits me better than any other group, current or potential). If I go counter-revolutionary then I have to give up the notion that many of the things debated by the revolution are indeed correct and need to be adressed.
That's the problem with revolutions and wars, Mr. hamilton. They turn things into Them and Us when in fact it is all Us. There is no Them. You, Mr. Hamilton are not my enemy, and I will be able to fix the wrongs of the UofA with you than against you. You will be able to have more of your criticisms met by working on the foundations already built into the UofA than on the rubble you'll leave behind tearing it down. We Are All In This Together, and it is in forgetting that fact that this whole revolution came about.
Join us Mr. Hamilton. Lay Down Your Arms. In the long run, you'll be glad you did.
(Except, I suppose, for the coming robot revolution. Should I say "thinking beings"instead?)
Those people have different ideas of what the revolution is about. I think what JTony is saying is that we shouldn't let the jingoism of Revolution get confused with the actual issues involved--that way lies deep-set bitter conflict and an outcome of scorched earth pain and resentment for one side or another.
Or perhaps: if you're serious about wanting the university going away. then let's talk about it, and how the university actually hurts you, and how we might improve things, with the awareness that we all love SF0 and all its members and want to make things better (I'll even sing kumbaya). If this conflict is more for the sake of conflict (in the vein of a glove slap), then sure, we can have a praxis fight (though it's still not clear how either side would actually win--so, I guess it's Calvinball style ;) and sing kumbaya afterwards.
What? What's wrong with kumbaya?
Okay, fine. We can sing something else. Just so long as BU and Vixen sing together.
Hellz yesss.
How would we execute that...?
I think the easiest way is for one person to record, solo, first. Then the second person, while listening to the recorded person on headphones, records their own track. Repeat as needed. :) Then mix them together using something like Audacity.
Or you could try this crazy Ninjam thing and see if it's as confusing as they say. ;)
As a way to expedite matters, if the first person records their track and then sends that track to all who are participating, and each of those records along with that first track, it'll move much quicker. Parallel processing and all.
Will we be singing Kumbaya (please, no) Revolution, or something else? Also, I have crappy microphone issues (basically the one built into my ibook). But I'm totally up for it!
Oh, and did I mention that I sing like a bird...
...a crow that's been run over by a truck, left for dead by the side of the road awhile untill turned into a zombie crow, looking for crowbrains... yeah, that's how I sing....
