The Death of Public Life In The Age of Insatiability by GYØ Vicki

February 27th, 2008 12:36 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document all the public actions you take in a day. Additionally, document all the private actions you take that same day.

Graph your actions.

Well, most other completions of this task I've seen are lists, so I thought that I'll do this slightly differently, however I am nicking the idea of colour-coding cause that's just easier. Also, this is all from memory to save me from writing lots of stuff down, plus I challenged myself to see how much I could remember of one day. I've also counted my thoughs as private.

Pictures are at the bottom of the page.

26th February
Alarm goes off. 6.25. Urgh.
I turn the annoying alarm off before it buzzes off my bedside cabinet. A few more minutes sleep can't hurt...
I finally decide to get out of bed at five to seven, leaving me thirty-five minutes to get ready! I turn on the straighteners, jump into the shower, do my makeup, get dressed and do my hair. With about ten minutes till Tasha gets here, I go downstairs and quickly have a mini Battenburg and apple juice. I quickly brush my teeth and get ready to go.

Tasha arrives at twenty-five to, and I get in the car and say hi to her and Megan. We get to school at quarter to eight and weave our way through the corridors to get to Latin. We start, and Izzie and Bella turn up about eight. Latin finishes at twenty to nine, Mr Carter tells me that I have G & T mentoring during Period 5 this afternoon which I am rather happy about as it means I get to miss English. We go to registration, then off to RE.

No Mr Abbas today, so we have Mr Charter and start the topic on abortion. Since we've got a cover lesson, the work consists of making notes and answering questions (fun). I make one and a half pages of notes and listen to Katrice battle her abortion views out with Sir. We then start discussing childbirth for some bizzare reason, until the bell goes and I walk to Maths with Megan.

In Maths, we're just going over stuff, so we do percentages. I get seven out of nine right, so I write some notes on Original Percentage and Profit/Loss. Maths goes pretty quickly, so I go to break. I get there and my friends are being their bitchy selves, so I go and get a mango and brazil nut bar (yum) and come back and talk to Megan who is also ignoring the bitchiness. Tyler comes and talks to me, along with Livvy, and we try and improve Tyler's ballet technique (with little success). The bell goes, and me and Megan walk to PE, moaning about our friends' grudges against another friend and commenting about the (for now) nice weather.

For PE, we're outside playing netball, and I notice the favouritism of the people who are actually good at netball over us normal sport people for team captains. Not all of us play for the county! We wander outside, I exclaim at Melissa's cool polo shirt that has Phichit Pittayakom School stuff on it (we didn't get them!) and we jump around to try and keep warm, which turn into echappe bateaus (ballet steps). Once we finally get sorted and get the posts out, the inevitable happens, it starts to throw it down. I hear lots of screams, and think to myself WHY? It's only water! Mrs Hodds starts calling us in, and I walk back inside.

Standing by the door is pretty cold, so I go and talk to Ellie about the Cliff Hotel thing going on Saturday and we kind of go through the Grade Five Ballet Variation that she's doing for the performance. We don't actually get round to doing any PE that lesson, so we go and get changed and wait for the bell to go.

Physics is next, with the infamous Mr P. I walk in, sit down, and we all get called liars by him. Good way to start a lesson. We go on for a few minutes about red and blue shift, then we get a booklet full of paragraphs for us to fill in the blanks. I don't particularly see how this is learning, but I quietly get on with it, since it is astronomy related \o/. Mr Pritchard then decides, even though he thinks that it's our fault that we don't get the work done, to get out one of the water dragons, which concequently, *coughs*, relieves itself on the floor and desk. It's all rather funny, but Megan gets pretty creeped out my reptiles, so it's not so good for her. After the little tangent-going off, he then decides to keep us in ten minutes into lunch. I think that he doesn't quite see the real problem.

Lunchtime. I take Sam's bag and save him a seat then go and get my lunch. Despite what other people think, I think that my lasagne actually smells quite nice =P! Some people are ignoring the person earlier mentioned, which I think is a bit sad really. After eating, me and Sam go and see Mr Farman about our Maths coursework, on the way moaning about the impending maths revision class after school till SIX! When we get there, seeing near enough our entire maths set plus Adam Thiss and Zoe, we sit down and try and get it finished. I go and see Mr
Farman to get him to check through my work, and I laugh over the bit at the bottom of Zoe's RE booklet about RE being better than Maths
*shudders*.
He then tells me that I have to write a conclusion, great, more work. We don't actually realise that it's twenty past, so we quickly go to registration, via the office, but the register's already gone.

I walk through the Science corridor, dodging Year Nines (they have no sense of urgency!), and go to form, where I take the register, cause Mr Prichard never bothers *sigh*. I then happily go off to Room One, with the prospect of no English! There's five of us, plus Vicky Watson, the G & T mentor. She basically asked us what we were enjoying or not enjoying about school, what we thought of Year Ten so far, and other stuff like that. Personally, I think we should do this more often, it's good to tell people these things, like the evil people in Graphics, the quality of teaching, volume of English coursework etc. The bell goes far too soon, and we begrudgingly go off to IT.

Tasha's saved me a seat so I go and sit down and fill her in on last lesson. To my pleasant surprise, Mrs Fanous isn't here, so we have Miss Brown (she's married now, but I can't remember her new name), but all we have to do is add things on a database and annotate screenshots (=extreme tedium). Me and Tasha get rather sidetracked, going on the Olympics and Norfolk Show website, to see if it was financially viable to have a *Scent stall, but I told her that we wouldn't be able to afford it or get the time off school, especially the latter because even if you miss a day, it's a nightmare trying to catch up. I do manage to annotate a few pages of screenshots, but I'm mainly thinking about the next section of my day; maths revision for two hours, then ballet. The bell goes, and me and Tasha go seperate ways.

I head down to the maths block, wait for five minutes for Sam and Tina to turn up, during which time I read the lists for the groups, 14, 40 and 44! I don't get the extreme group numbers but am fortunate to be in the 14 group. Sam and Tina turn up, and he waits for me and Tina to go into the loos and get changed, which we don't do in the maths block because the floor is lovely and wet! Sam heads off for the library, and saying we'd meet him there, go to the orange toilets. We get changed, ballet tights are not easy things to put on in a small space! Me, feeling out of place wearing my leotard, tights, a green t-shirt and my school trousers, and Tina go to the library, where Askew questions my clothes. We spot Sam upstairs and go and join him, Connor, Tom and Luke. I finally finish my coursework, and Luke actually admits that his name is Tina =P! At ten to four, we leave the library and meet Laura, Jennie, Adam and Rebecca, who for some odd reason has Tom's bag, in the dining room and we walk back to the maths block. Tina gives me her folder and me and Sam run up to Mr Farman's room. We enter a room full of Level 8 Year Nine's staring at us (scary Year Ten people) and we quickly run and put our work on his desk. We go back down to Miss Morton's room, and decide where we're sitting. Mrs Demetriou comes in, and we start the 2 hour slog that is maths revision!

Maths isn't too bad, there's only 14 people in our group, 6 Year Tens and 8 Year Elevens, including GYØ Neil and Askew (Naskew). It's all quadratics and completing the square, but all we get for revision are printed PowerPoint slides fo us to write notes on; not really the best way to revise "a mon avis". We go on for fourty-five minutes, then we have a fifteen minute break. Sam and Ben go off and get coffee. Askew gets out a packet of strawberry laces which are strangely stuck together, but they still prove to be rather yummy. I tell Naskew about my plans for this task, and that I got a message saying that I was at Level 2, to which Askew replies that we should do some tasking together. Mrs Demetriou starts again, and Sam and Ben walk in and drink their coffee. I start getting confused over completing the square, but work out where I went wrong. Then, exam questions! *urgh*. Six o'clock comes along, and me, Sam and Askew walk out, to which Askew gets into Sam's car! After laughing rather loudly, I wander off to find my car, and head off to dancing.

When I get there, I get my purse, comb and iPod out of my school bag, and go up to the studio. I'm the first one there, so I sit down, take my shoes and coat off and go to eat my pasta. No fork! Therefore, I don't eat my pasta but put on my ballet shoes, grip back my fringe and listen to "Mai" by Josh Groban, who's voice is awesome. Kasia comes in, so I turn off my music and talk to her about Thailand. Jane comes in a few minutes later, declares that she is now a lady, and we begin to regail stories to eachother. More people come in and join the conversation, Beth and Livvy come in and me and Beth compare Wicked clothing (my t-shirt and her hoody). Danii and Jane say that they've never heard of Wicked and the rest of us are scandalised. Grade 4 Modern finishes, so I go in and put my stuff at the front of the room. Danii grabs me and tells me of a slight faux-pas that she has just made, then me, Tayla and Livvy go through the variation. We start class; there's over twenty people today, lots of Grade 4's who want to do their exam, so Beth and Tit use the piano as the barre! We do barre work, my hips clicking profusely *ouch*. I feel quite proud of my battement fondu en l'air to second with my left leg, it's at about 135 degrees now. I start streching with Livvy, Tayla, Danii and Rhiannon and we discuss the troubles of low cut leotards, and I actually manage to do the splits. We start the normal class, and start with pirrouettes, and once again am proud of doing an entire set of decent turns!

We start jumping, then Jayne makes us do changements in fifth infront of the mirror. It actually looks rather cool! We then start doing ballonées, which I think are the most un-balletic steps. Class goes rather quickly after that, then I get my stuff together and find Livvy and Roseanna. I say hi to Ellie and go downstairs and find the car. I move my bags from out of the back of the car so Livvy and Roseanna can get in and I get in the front. We go to Roseanna's house, and I ask her what options she wants to take next year. We drop her off, and I ask Livvy who is going to the performance on Saturday. Mum makes a revelation that we don't steam up the new car due to the air conditioning! We decide to get pizza inbetween dancing on Friday, then we drop Livvy off. We go home and I finally sit down and eat my pasta. I go on my laptop, and start attempting to type up the praxis while half watching "Desperate Housewives". I also discover GYØ Ben's Joypod video on Youtube and comment on it, since I'm actually in it.

At about ten o'clock, I give up and go upstairs with the laptop and my school bag in tow. I put my pj's on, and do as much of my maths and physics homework as I can, while changing my wallpaper and screensaver. After my mock physics paper, skipping question 7 about half-lives since we haven't actually done it yet, I carry on typing up the praxis and uploading the photos. At about half eleven, I give in to tiredness and turn the laptop off, brush my teeth and check my alarm on my phone.

Sleep.

Yep, it's not too bad though, less books to carry! Plus I'm bowling in PE en ce moment, so it's quite fun, even though I suck.

Hah, I didn't notice that XD, either cats ears or the Statue of Liberty.

Vote for about the only other people on here that have ever played netball. Yeah, I never played for the county either.
