Object Annotation by Lizard Boy

INSTRUCTIONS: Pick a local public object that you enjoy and leave a note on it describing your feelings in great detail.

On our campus there is a statue, named "Motion Shield", or, as we affectionatly call it, Rusty. Rusty has been there for a long time, so it's first appearance on campus is by now a matter of legend. However, a legend it is. Apparently the artist publicly touted it as "unrustable". According to legend, a group of students that may or may not have included some chemistry majors took it upon themselves to rust it. Quickly. Armed with various instruments of rusting (the one thing that people are fairly certain of is that it involved electrical current), they did a pretty good job. And thus, Rusty was born.

Since then public art has been declared unprankable.

I love that the artist thought to mention that his sculpture is "unrustable."

Hah! Chemistry majors!

Ahhh, beautiful.

I love your story of how "Rusty" came to be. Perfect example of thoughtful, witty pranking that isn't necessarily destruction or defacing property... rather, just adding to the artfulness, methinks. Lovely!

PS. Blue tape? Cool.

more mudd mischief, merci

has anyone proven what they did with the chemicals?

i.e. if i want to rust the unrustable, what's my recipe?

Salt, water, and electricity? And maybe that artist is a genius - declare it unrustable, allow either time or mischievous students to rust it, and voila: a piece with the added significance of a good story to go along with it.

Ya, Sean's basically got the recipe right. Just keep in mind that some things are *actually* unrustable, as in they won't chemically oxidize, and that you need to use direct current.
