Street Spelling by Eddie Arlette

July 25th, 2006 12:44 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Spell out your character's name or your name in San Francisco street signs, one for each letter. Take pictures of each street sign for proof.

Better yet, have someone else spell out for you and trade pictures.

Laziness can bring about unexpected solutions. With this weekend's heat, I wanted to complete the Street Spelling task in the shortest possible distance, as close to home as possible. So with a little studying of the map, I discovered not only could I collect all the signs in less than a half-mile walk, but all the signs could be found without skipping a block -- and they were all cross streets to the street I was currently one. Ain't it cool...

So without further ado... Start on Oak Drive at the intersection of Ninth Avenue (there's the "I"). Turn right onto Ninth and walk past Lorne Court (there's the first "E") and Dunne Lane (there's a "D") until you come to Edison Way (there's the other "D"). Turn right on Edison, and a half a block later is Fair Oaks Avenue (got the "K"). Turn right on Fair Oaks, and walk past Tenth Avenue (there's the "N"), Eleventh Avenue (another "E"), Twelfth Avenue (got the final "E") and end up at San Benito Avenue (for the "N").

BTW, these streets are in the Bay Area but not San Francisco. Can you guess the location?
