The Labeling Compulsion by Ohrlyeh Totenkinder
April 8th, 2007 9:56 PM
So, I'm going to start by admitting that I thought of this task as just one of those throw-away tasks to knock out in between the serious completions. It turned out to be more brain racking that I would have anticipated. I've found that if I’m not into a task I tend to have a really hard time coming up with an idea I like, (perhaps If I have a really good Idea for a task I tend to get into it), but I’m still compelled to do something that I’m proud of.
Any way, I labeled stuff at work.
I started just randomly labeling my tools, but then I put myself into the mindset of a character, which always gets the creativity flowing when I have the limitations of an archetype instead of the boundless possibility of nothing in particular. I naturally fell into a character with an obsessive compulsive fear of everything. I think at that point I really hit my stride. I finished up my tools and my surrounding area and moved out into the rest of the shop. It took me about three days to think up tags for all the stuff that I did...yeah not too excited. I did hit on a few funny ones that I am rather proud of though.
I was so sucessfull at labeling compulsively that I forgot about several things I had labeled. All day the next day at work I kept finding more things with my mark. They made me giggle a little bit. It was like a gift to myself.
all the labels after "Don't try too hard" are the ones that I stumbled upon later.

I didn't quite get the stapler label. Then it came to me. Har!

Not for baby storage is great, since so many plastic buckets and things come labelled with toddler drowning warning icons.
