Compile Some Footage by Orange Rose hopes of peace

October 12th, 2007 2:11 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Compile some footage.

So, this task is proving far harder than it would have been originally. Here's the stages I've been through:

Part 1: The Inspiration
You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video
Part of the television series A Bit of Fry and Laurie is these strange and pointless-seeming video clips called Vox Pops. My sister and I saw these, laughed a lot, and decided we needed to make our own.

Part 2: Filming
This summer, my family went on a two-week vacation across the western US, going from California, north to Idaho, then East to Washington and South back home. It was an awesome trip, and my sister brought her handy dandy digital camera, which can capture 30 second film clips. We recorded a few of these as we went, each time with a different random prompt.
Then, we got home from our US trip, had two days to do laundry and pack, and flew South to Guatemala. She and I spent almost three weeks there, exploring and doing touristy things. Including filming each other in various locations doing various silly things.

Part 3: Editing
Now that I've discovered I actually have Windows MovieMaker on my computer, I'm getting down to brass tacks. Here's the facts: 5 minutes of raw footage, in 16 clips, and one pot of coffee. Let's see what comes of this one.
So, I've been working on this little movie project since about 8:15 this evening, it's now 11:50, and I'm still going strong. So's the coffee. Strong, not going.
12:28 I am in grave peril. I think my keystrokes and clicks have been going too fast for MovieMaker, because it's running so slow I think it's frozen until it randomly does something I told it to do a little while ago. Damn me for not saving my progress! Damn!
12:45 So....I just lost about an hours editing work because Windows is dumb. Lesson Learned. SAVE DAMMIT!
1:08 Oh, so now it's not actually my fault, 'cause Windows MovieMaker has done it about twice more. Dumb program.

Part 4: The Final Product
Alright, time, 1:37 AM, I'm finally done editing. Uploading to Youtube is next, and then, here it is!

Good effort.

You certainly completed the task, and with an appropriately surreal interpretation of Vox Pops, too.

But the vote is mainly for persisting with Windows Movie Maker, which is incredibly fristrating to use.
