Cool Memories by Orange Rose hopes of peace

June 12th, 2007 11:26 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Examine how a contemporary historical event either did not happen or was our fantasy.

I'm a big fan of logic, and friends have a saying that goes "Mar logic hurts." So here goes.

1. Paris Hilton cannot act and isn't very good looking.
therefore,
2. I really dislike Paris Hilton.
therefore,
3. Seeing something really terrible happen to her would bring me intense joy.

Also,
4. Paris Hilton made some STUPID choices regarding the law.
therefore,
5. Paris Hilton "got arrested" and is now "in jail."

However,
6. Murphy's Law dictates that whatever can go wrong does.
And
7. Someone named Murphy greatly dislikes me.

In summation,
8. Paris Hilton cannot actually be in jail because it would simply bring me too much happiness.

FALLACY!

3 does not logically follow 2 or 1.

Logically, it would make more sense -

1. Paris Hilton cannot act and isn't very good looking
2. I really dislike Paris Hilton
3. Therefore, I dislike people who cannot act and are not very good looking

This, in and of itself, is a fallacy because you're purposing that a whole is the sum of its parts. However, I'll let this be and continue to extrapolate.....

Your 3rd step - Seeing something terrible happen to her would bring you intense joy - does not logically follow 1 or 2 - you would need to use MY third step in (listed above) and then turn YOUR 3rd step into a 4th step in the first quatraine - namely that you don't like people who cannot act and are not very good looking thus seeing something happen to Paris would make you happy

Logically, your argument makes you sound as elitest as P. Hilton. I am sure there are plenty of good people out there who can neither A.) Act nor are B.) good looking. Maybe that's not the case....maybe people who can neither act and are ugly are real asshole to boot - but you certainly haven't proven that logically.

If you need me, I'll be sitting here pleased with myself.

the bitching lamp is lit.
Here, how's this for the first section:
1. Paris Hilton is famous, despite the fact that she can't act and doesn't look very good.
2. I dislike people who are famous simply for fame's sake.
Therefore,
3. I dislike Paris Hilton.

Also,
4. I wish misfortune upon many people I dislike, especially those I don't know personally.
Therefore,
5. I wish some sort of misfortune on Paris Hilton.

Yeah, I know I'm a bitch. If Paris Hilton wants to come talk to me, show me how she's changed, and she's not some paparazzi whore who can do as she pleases just because she's an heiress, she can find me here.

Careful - is there internet in jail?

I've never been much in a logic argument, and don't plan to start now. That said, I applaud taking the high road where so many might have argued that Paris Hilton in jail more of a "our fantasy" than a "did not happen"
