One Hour Photo by Meta tron

January 13th, 2008 3:49 PM / Location: 51.494109,-0.236270

INSTRUCTIONS: Take one photograph that documents the passage of one hour.

As soon as I saw this task I thought "cool." Immediately my mind was filled with the images I saw at the RCA once created by a student who used a scanner as a kind of camera obscura. An hour's worth of long exposure, what would that look like? How would I do that?

I have no idea how you do that.

I had an exciting idea of making a pin hole camera with a roll of film attached to a clock mechanism so it spooled for 1 hour exactly as one long photo. And if I was still at Uni I'd have all the equipment to build and develop that apparatus.

But I'm not.

So I went low-tech. My favourite kind of tech.

I burnt a candle for an hour.

This is the photo illustrating the passage of one hour.

This film illustrates how much I love my newly reacquainted mini-blow torch.

Non stop crème bruleé!!!
That´s a thoughful present: my kind of toy.
Was the candle BLUE or CE-purple? Hard to say.
Mink is #1. I always thought so.

I thought I'd go look up that RCA student's work. Strangely it's ALL been taken down and can only be glimpsed at in a handful of blogs. One photo is this:
