Our choice of a target wasn't too hard. Whenever Metsuki and I took the bus into the one of the cooler parts of Portland we would pass by this Joan of Arc statue with its tacky paint job. Originally we had planned to celebrate her own birthday with her, but from the little research we did it turned out her birthday might have been January 6th. However with our own approaching, we figured what the hell; let's celebrate with a dead woman's statue. And so we did.
We set out gathering up supplies from a previous birthday party thrown for one of my roommates, and while we meant to grab more materials from home, the absent minded side of forgot to gather them. So alas, Metsuki and I were left with some streamers, paper plates, a plastic table cloth, a "Happy Birthday" sign, and a witch's hat (can't forget party hats). Though we lacked sufficient supplies to support a huge celebration in honor of our Birthday, Metsuki, I and Rusty (who it turned out to have the same Birthday as us) went full out.
Metsuki and I ran around the statue trying to tepee the statue with streamers, though our bad aim and the wind made this nearly impossible. Most of the streamers ended up in the nearby tree, but Metsuki and I successfully managed to get the green streamer around Joan's hand.
With the streamers taken care of, we moved onto the table cloth. Half-assing it in case the po-po came by to stop our fun. Though a couple police cars did drive by our handy-work, while we were in the process of completing our mission they simply continued to drive on.
Once we ran out of traditional supplies, Metsuki and I proceeded to spread napkins on to the nearby bushes surrounding Joan. After the last napkin had been carefully placed, Metsuki, Rusty and I headed over to the bus stop about 30 feet away.
