Present Day by Møuse

August 9th, 2007 10:36 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a pointed and thoughtful present (wrapped, naturally) for a close friend, lover or loved one. Document both the present itself and your giftee's reaction upon opening it.

You may also make this package for an enemy.

Far be it from me to ignore a challenge from the almighty Dispatch!

However it was a bit too far for me to manage to remember the proper instructions to the challenge on such things as dates (hence why i now upload it oh so very close to the deadline. Curse my lack of internet i say!

It was on a sunny wednesday that my plan was hatched. With a invitation sent out to the beloved Meta Tron to join me on a large patch of grass with further plans to make stencils and paint t-shirts. However secretly i harboured the evil desire to present himher with.. a present. One so big and brash that it would be impossible to hide.

And what would i put inside such a large box? Well i thought to myself, i must stay true to mine and Metatrons BARTpa background. It must therefore be based on the idea of transport. It must aid the present-worthy Metatron in herhis travels through the sprawling metropolis of London. Feverishly i cast out the net through the city to find such a thing. My travels were not wasted as shortly i came across this beauty in a nearby shop.

Bounce back to the 70s! You know you want to.

It was perfect, it called to me, it berated me for not owning it, and for not immediately heeding its order to Bounce back to the 70s!.

And so i set about building said present on the said grass. It is about now that i point out my chronic inability to wrap any gift without much blustering and general todo. It was therefore rather a comic 3 hours that i spent infront of an audience of a hundred or so, trying to wrap a massive box without looking foolish.

Curse you box of large size!

Matters were made worse when the wind picked up and everything flew everywhere. But after some negotiation with the inanimate wrapping items, things were almost finally ready.

Yes i say almost as next came my plan to turn Metatron into a walking advert for sf0 upon receiving her gift and carrying it through the city. Never has the back of wrapping paper been put to greater cause.

5F! SF! you decide!

F0 with a slash!

And of course nothing says Big Brash Present like a big shiny star bow thing and ribbons.

Nothing says present like a big shiny bow thing.

I then scampered quickly to the local train station that i knew Metatron would be arriving at shortly. I placed the gift in prime location for her to spot, and then waited. It was around then that i started to notice a similarity between the box i had just created and placed suspiciously in a train station, and the boxes that received some attention in the press in the states some while back.. Oh dear.
I therefore decided to stick pretty close to my potential bomb package with its mysterious markings and to keep on making sure everyone knew very well it was mine.

Nothing says present like a suspicious package in a train station

I was not arrested.

And then Metatron arrived and the gift was presented!

Present for you!

Happy Present Day one and all!

Metatron away!

Very nice wrapping job. Meta looks very pleased with her retro space hopper. I now have an image in my mind of her using it as her primary means of transportation, bouncing around all over london.

Indeed. If reality is discovered to be contrary to the image in your mind, I will cry.

Quite nice! I was hoping someone would take up the challenge...and your submission was more than up to it.

Incidentally, anyone willing to take up the challenge may have an extra day or two. There are apparently some kinks to work out with the mechanic. :)

Who am I to shatter any illusions?

I bounced all the way to work this morning on the retro spacehopper, it took me four hours to get there, and it was a bit tricky crossing the river, but it was worth it and for all you know happened. I would have gotten there sooner but I found that I had accidentally bounced back to the 70s along the way and arrived to find that my shop hadn't been build yet.

Also, Metatron in female guise finds that men give her presents! I received three gifts that day - all out of the blue, all bizarre. A spacehopper from the lovely Mouse, an autographed limited edition postcard from a colleague and a 12 foot long banner saying 'CAMRA support real Ale' (from a drunk man on the tube who suddenly realised his wife probably wouldn't appreciate his beer festival souvenir).

Thank you Mouse for such a beautifully wrapped present. I SHALL get you back...

I can't believe you're the only person to complete this challenge within the original deadline! Never again will I ignore a dispatch challenge...

I demand competition!

bravo

The next challenge will hopefully have more competition...but this task would have bested an army of challengers, I imagine.

A badge of honor has been bestowed upon the worthy player...congrats!

Unretired…
