Invite A SF0 Participant by M B

June 27th, 2006 9:19 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Invite a friend to join sf0. This task isn't considered accomplished until they complete at least two tasks and are linked as your friend.

I just invited my whole household. We'll see if I get lucky...*smile*...

This task is not completed until they have joined, have completed at least two tasks, and are linked as your friend. I know you are new, but people keep posting this one for points when it actually hasn't been completed!!!

Whoah, it's okay. We're keeping an eye on the completions for "Invite an SFZero Participant" and not giving them final approval unless the invitees do a few tasks. Also Muffy just submitted a great task and didn't do Make A Task: The Task so consider these 10 points placeholders for those to come.

Maybe put a comment in the task itself if you want to make sure people wait to submit until the invitees join and participate. But it's a little harsh to admonish new players when they are inviting people to join.

Thanks for inviting your household Muffy.

I wasn't trying to be harsh! Sorry if I was discouraging Muffy, that was definately NOT my intention.

I'm a bit confused...

It was not clear to me at the time I selected that task that I would have to monitor it myself before submitting it. I saw the conditions on the task, but at the time assumed there was something in the system which would track the invitations, acceptances, etc.

Perhaps, if many people are making this mistake, it's not the people but the task (or general introductory documentation) that is the problem? I hope I'm not unduly thick-headed, but it wasn't until I worked on a few tasks and then saw this criticism that I understood how the whole system worked. Perhaps either the task definition could be significantly clarified or it could require more points to even try it. That might also help because people can perhaps explain it better to their friends if they have moderate experience before inviting anyone.

It seems that monitering is happening, which I didn't know about until Ian posted, so it's no big deal! I didn't think there was monitering, because they say to flag something if it isn't really completed. I obviously didn't flag yours because it's a small task, and because I think a lot of new players are confused the same way you were. Once again, I wasn't trying to be harsh or discouraging, I really was trying to say how the game worked. I guess I could have said it in a more useful way. Here's hoping you do "get lucky"

Not to worry...

Don't worry, I have been flamed by truly mean and obnoxious people, having been a poster to usenet for many years back in the heyday. Your message was sensible, to the point, not mean, and educational. Rather than driving me away, it has in fact made me more engaged.

oh, and...

As it happens, two of my household have joined so far...*smile*.

That's awesome! My only invitee to even seem interested has not done anything other than post a picture. Although most of my artistity, cool-kids friends got here before me, lowering my invite potential...
