Ethereal Cartography by October

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a map of something that does not exist physically.

I have this problem with procrastination, that intangible element that has so many negative effects on my life. I thought it would be interesting to map out some of the paths I take to get AWAY from whatever it is I have to do, even if it's the simplest little thing... I couldn't make a map big enough to hold EVERYTHING, of course, but this is a small sampling of the things that distract me from my "to-do" list. And of course, in doing this task, I'm putting off doing other things that I should be doing - like studying, or finishing an overdue article, or something. However, this is the first chance I've had to use my Wacom tablet, and I have decided that I really, really love it.

I'm not an artist. Not by a looooooong shot. As you can see, I can't even draw straight lines. I've heard that one can teach oneself to draw through lots of practice - I'm hoping that's true, because I want to be able to draw much much better than I can now.

Regarding Wikipedia: When I think of Wikipedia, I get two separate images in my mind. The first is the House of Doors from "The Neverending Story", where Bastian goes into a room that has two doors, chooses one which leads to another which leads to another and so on until he finally reaches his heart's desire through a series of choices. Wikipedia is like that, only with thousands of doors in each room (entry). The other image is of the Kowloon Walled City as I imagine it in my mind - a labyrinth of passages leading into rooms big and small and towering up as far as the eye can see. So, that's what the big "City of Wikipedia" up there at the top is supposed to be... but I'm a lousy artist and couldn't draw it the way I wanted it. Oh well.

Amazon and iTunes are evil.

Cute kitties are very distracting.

The street with the "Apple Store" and the bookstore with the Big Cup of Coffee at the end is called "Shopping Blvd.", but the map publisher failed to label it properly.

Also of note: You see the "housework" bits on the left side of the map - these places can appear or disappear at will; sometimes I will use them to procrastinate, and other times, I'm procrastinating doing things like "sweeping" or "vacuuming" or dishes or dusting or whatever else might be hanging around in that corner.

Thank you! I love SF0 because it makes procrastination feel like not-procrastination. As long as it's not Tasks that I'm procrastinating on. :D

If only it was easier to find the way back....

Also, I like the way you draw kitties. For me, it's an important measure of artistic skill.

Thank you! Drawing kitties is very important work. I had to redraw the kitties several times before my own kitties were satisfied with the visual representation.

Haha this is awesome and I totally relate. Right now I'm still stuck in the "internet beach." I'll probably be there for a while. Oh look, cute kitties!

This really fulfills the terms of the task, and does it excellently. Glad you didn't put it off too long! Now come back and do another task! (I have 2 unfinished ones)

Thank you!

I'm finally back at SF0. I'm making a resolution to do at least two tasks each month - we'll see how I fare. :)

Just..wow!
