Antiwallet Freedom Venture by Oliver X

May 19th, 2006 12:02 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: For three days, carry all of the things you normally carry in a wallet or purse in a non-standard receptacle. This receptacle could be a paper bag, a burlap sack, a cup, a piece of soft food, your hand, etc. This task will not be accepted and scored if the receptacle is too standard! No pockets or prefabricated bags - nothing that can be construed as being engineered for carrying credit cards, cash, driver's license, and whatever else you have in your wallet. Extraordinary proofs will be scored accordingly - significant bonus points for baking your personal effects into a cake that you bring around and eat to access items when necessary.

Don't Laugh At My Peanut Butter Panda Puffs

Starting Tuesday noon, I've carried around my cash, ID, credit card, business cards, car keys, cell phone, chocolate bar, etc. in a box of my favorite kid's cereal. Every transaction meant digging around in it looking for the appropriate prize and perhaps a handful of crunchy peanut butter goodness. Lots of fun. Lunches, dinners, book stores, coffee shops, grocery store, and so on.

Minnesotans generally fall into two categories. The first are those who are too polite to say anything when you do something crazy, like the woman who didn't bat an eyelash when I spilled Panda Puffs all over the counter at Kitchen Window while making my purchase. The second are those who are so easygoing they're cool with everything, like the woman at the coffeeshop: "Cereal?! I love cereal!"

I've also been using it to carry around our Exquisite Corpse drawings, a couple of which were Panda Puffs-inspired, to show random people.

I saw the wallet. And tasted the wallet. It was delicious.
